347 Menker Avenue
1907 Queen Anne Victorian

The “Lowry House” was built in 1907 and is so named because of a former owner who was a candidate for state office. The home has been owned by Ken and Sally Henning since 1993. They have not made many improvements to the property during their ownership so as to “not spoil the historic character of the house.”

The Queen Anne style cottage was the favorite Victorian style of the people who moved into the Burbank-Buena Vista area at the turn of the 20th century.

This is one of the few Victorians to have shingles used as well as cladding. The shingles form a coursed pattern under the front gables and the bay-style window. The doors and windows are original and the wooden front steps have been retained.

While in the house, have a look at all the door frames and archways. You will notice that all the trim has been milled concave rather than flat.

The home has been maintained in its original form and is in good condition. One of the few improvements the Hennings have made to the house is its newly refurbished bathroom.

As far as we know, this is the only Victorian still in existence in the Buena Vista neighborhood.
