Last night, I released my June Budget Message, which – if approved by the City Council – directs how we’ll spend our City’s resources in the coming fiscal year. In the message, I recommend a series of critical one-time investments in programs that build on my commitment to expanding opportunity for the many who struggle with our region's rising cost of living. Among these investments, I direct funding for free summer learning youth programs, pre-apprenticeships construction trades programs for young adults, street-cleaning jobs for homeless residents, and childcare for working parents.
I also advocate for substantial investments in public safety, including the return of “foot patrols” to restore “community policing” in some high-crime neighborhoods. The Message also makes new investments to counter sexual assault, prevent crime through community engagement, and install new traffic safety infrastructure.
