San Jose is moving forward on plans to develop a new transit line that would connect Diridon Station with Mineta San Jose International Airport.
The city is hoping to form a public-private partnership, or P3, to develop the transit service. The San Jose City Council approved on Tuesday Mayor Sam Liccardo's budget message — essentially his outline of budget priorities, which includes the recommendation that the city request proposals for the new airport connection….
San Jose's mayor has directed City Manager Dave Sykes to issue by May a request for proposals for the transit line, which would also offer service along West San Carlos Street and extend onto Stevens Creek Boulevard. Bidders will need to show that they have the financial wherewithal to build the transit system themselves. The winner will have the opportunity to enter into exclusive negotiations with the city, according to Liccardo's budget message.
